Twin Falls, Idaho didn’t strike me as a hotbed of vegan living. But when I Googled veg restaurants, I was thrilled to find 4 Roots, a mostly vegetarian café and juice bar. Turns out it’s also Idaho’s first juice bar.
Tucked in same mini mall as Stay Well Health Foods (established 1943!!!), 4 Roots has been here about two years. I was trying to guess which roots the café was named for until somebody clued me in that the name comes from the owner’s four children.
The mostly veg menu includes wraps, rice bowls, nachos, avocado toast, roasted beet salad, acai bowls and extensive juice and smoothie offerings. I got the taco salad with organic mixed greens, walnut and mushroom taco meat, tomato, cilantro, guacamole and cashew cream. My partner got the Incan veggie burger with a garbanzo-quinoa patty. They were both good, but mine was especially artfully arranged.
The restaurant has an airy feel, with spring green and white décor and a wooden floor. A kids’ area in back is a nice place to keep young folks entertained while powering through your green smoothie.
According to the young woman working the counter, 4 Roots is well supported by the local vegan and health-conscious community. Also, lots of Sun Valley people live a health-conscious lifestyle. When they pass through Twin Falls, they stop for a meal.
The café purchases directly from local farms when possible, and features as many organic ingredients as it can. This is a must-stop for vegans and smoothie-enthusiasts visiting Twin Falls or driving through Idaho.
