Do you want to support children in Nepal? You can help make sure they have access to food, shelter, clothing, and education in a country where at-risk children are subjected to the dangers of child labor, malnutrition and prostitution. If you’re a climber, you can sign up for a fundraiser to climb Mount Rainier in Washington State next month. But if you’re not a climber, you can still help by sponsoring one.
The organizing sponsor of the annual Mount Rainier Climb is Red Lantern Journeys, a tour provider who specializes in Asia travel. The friendly company employs several vegetarians, so they’re good at answering the questions of veg folk who want help organizing their travels. Ambrose Bittner, Red Lantern founder and CEO, was very helpful when I was researching the latest edition of Vegetarian Asia Travel Guide, putting me in touch with several people for interviews and translation help.
Red Lanterns offers lots of options. They’ll help you arrange a private itinerary, or lead you in small group travel. Destinations include India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali, Nepal, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Bhutan and Tibet. If you’re a luxury travel kind of person, Red Lantern knows all the best places to stay.
If you want more information about the Mount Rainier Climb, contact Red Lantern at charityclimb@redlanternjourneys.com or call 206-568-0710. The climb takes place Thursday, July 19 to Saturday, July 21. Registration costs $130 and participants are required to fundraise at least $1500. Still undecided? The biggest fundraiser wins a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
