I first tried out toe socks last year and was immediately hooked. I bought a bunch of injinji socks in different colors. So I was excited to get review samples of Injinji Snow Over the Calf socks. They launched at the end of October, just in time for fall and winter runs.
Why toe socks?
In case you are new to toe socks, they give extra cushioning as each toe has its own little compartment. This cushy approach cuts down on blisters. Of course, you have to allow an extra 30 seconds or so when getting dressed to coax each little toe into its slot.
Meet the Injinji Snow Over the Calf socks
While Injinji makes a lot of bold and colorful socks, the new socks come in two more subdued colors: twilight and shadow. Also known as blue and black. The twilight socks have snazzy magenta and aqua lines to liven them up, while green and white accents jazz up the shadow. Sizing is unisex.
The Snow Over the Calf socks are made from moisture-wicking THERMOLITE EcoMade fibers. “It has THERMOLITE® FAR INFRAREDTechnology embedded within the fibers that aid in generating heat using the infrared energy created naturally by the body,” according to info from the company. I’m not sure what’s with these all-capital words, but it sounds like the company put scientific thought into these socks.
Trying out Injinji Snow Over the Calf socks
I hasn’t yet tried these socks in actual snow, but it has gotten down to 40 degrees in my neighborhood. Which is chilly enough to get cold calves, especially since I run at turtle speed. These socks look good, stay up, and keep my legs warm. They also work well for hiking. The company recommends wearing them over running tights if conditions are truly brrrr, but I haven’t had to do that yet.
I’ve tried out both unisex and women’s Injinji socks and I prefer the women’s, as unisex is just a teeny bit big for my feminine little toes. But they’re still comfortable, so not a huge deal.
I recommend these if you’re looking for a tall toe sock. It would also make a great last-minute holiday gift, or a birthday gift for January and February-born runners.
