Have you ever wanted to get closer to your personal trainer? Like, really, really close? Then you’ll enjoy the new K Sport headphones, which promote themselves as an “in-ear personal trainer.”
I tried out this new product recently. The Ks are wireless headphones which pair with your smartphone, giving you access to hundreds of downloadable training plans. They might be the perfect gift for somebody on your holiday list. Here are the ups and downs of my experience with K Sport headphones so far.
Trying out the headphones
When I’m home, I like to go to spin and boot camp classes. Exercising with other people is usually fun and motivating for me. But when traveling—which I do a lot—I’m always trying to find ways to keep myself working out. So the first K Sport headphones training plan I downloaded was a short bodyweight workout that can be done in a hotel room. The workout was simple and effective, including burpees, side to side hops, pushups, lunges and a few other exercises done for 45 seconds at a time. If you do the sequence three times through, it takes about 15 minutes. A short workout, but much better than nothing when on the road. I found it realistic and easy to follow, and the headphones were lightweight and had good sound quality. I could listen to my choice of music through one headphone while hearing instructions through the other. The only problem was that during burpees and side to side hops, my right headphone kept falling out. Of course, chasing a headphone is a plus if you want to procrastinate a burpee or two.
Other K Sport headphones workout plans include running, bodybuilding, yoga, triathlon, cycling—the list goes on. These little headphones come with an excellent variety of workout options.
Who are the K Sport headphones for?
My experience of the headphones popping out made me think it would be easier to just let my phone talk out loud like I do with my Tabata app. However, if you’re exercising in a gym, park or even in a shared hotel room, the personal-trainer-in-your-ear aspect of the K Sport headphones is very convenient. I’d recommend these headphones for somebody who enjoys technology and learning new apps, and is patient enough to spend time calibrating the headphones with their stride length, and who doesn’t mind having yet another charger in his or her life.
