Rappelling for a cause with Northwest Battle Buddies

When organizers invited me to rappel down Portland’s tallest building for a good cause, I immediately said hell, yeah! It wasn’t until later that it occurred to me that the US Bancorp Tower, known locally as Big Pink because of its rosy hue, is really, you know, tall. At 536 feet and 42 stories, you could call it a skyscraper. But how chances would I get for rappelling down it?

The rappelling adventure raised money for Northwest Battle Buddies, a nonprofit that gifts fully trained service dogs to veterans with PTSD. The incredible people who run the organization also rappelled. Here’s my story for USA Today Outdoors Wire.
