Mingle Mocktails sparkle sans alcohol

The folks at Mingle Mocktails sent me some samples to try out. Always on a mission to normalize nondrinking, I was eager to drink them all. Here’s what I found.

What’s in Mingle Mocktails?

First of all, what’s in this drink? Carbonated water, organic cane sugar, 2-7 percent fruit juice, natural flavors, extracts and acids. All Mingle Mocktails are vegan, gluten free and kosher, and contain 0% alcohol. They contain 50 to 60 calories per 12 ounce can.

The brand currently has 7 flavors:

  • Pineapple paloma
  • Cranberry cosmo
  • Blood orange elderflower mimosa
  • Sparkling raspberry rosé
  • Key lime margarita
  • Blackberry hibiscus bellini
  • Cucumber melon mojito

Two more flavors are coming soon, berry lemon bliss and serene citrus spritz. These two fall in the functional category, with added ingredients designed to alter your mood. In this case, lion’s mane for clear-minded presence, ashwagandha for grounded and centered energy, and l-theanine for relaxed vibes.

What do Mingle Mocktails taste like?

These mocktails taste like gentle, fruity versions of their namesakes with the alcohol left out. The cucumber melon mojito is refreshing. The pineapple paloma and key lime margarita contain some of my favorite fruit flavors. They’re less sweet than a regular soft drink, but lack the kick of a cocktail. Unlike some zeroproof drinks, Mingle doesn’t add fake tequila to make its margarita taste more like the real thing. This can be a pro or a con, depending on how you feel about alcohol. You might miss the kick. Then again, you might be glad not to be triggered by something that tastes too “real.”

Other thoughts on Mingle

I like the sociability of the name. It says, no, I’m not going to stay alone in my room depressed because I can’t drink. Instead, I’m going to go out with other humans and drink something delicious and festive looking in a brightly colored can. That’s nice.

My husband had the good idea of taking Mingle on our SUPs. Being a person interested in safety, I know that two of the biggest causes of boating accidents and fatalities are drinking or using other drugs and not wearing a personal flotation device. Boy did I feel safe sitting on my board in my PFD drinking a Mingle while taking a break from paddling.
